At American Family Insurance, community is at the heart of all we do. And helping our customers protect what matters most goes beyond insurance. Take it from Indiana agent, Lisa Williams.
“My customers have become like family to me,” says Lisa. “Some have become really good, close friends, and all of them can reach me through my cell phone even after hours or on weekends.”
But for Lisa, supporting her community means more than being a dependable insurance agent. She strives to make a real difference — and after discovering that her long-term clients have a daughter with Down Syndrome, Lisa wanted to lend a hand.
So, she partnered with the Down Syndrome Association of Northwest Indiana (Opens in a new tab) — a non-profit focused on providing resources and supplies to children with special needs. And with the help of our One Saturday to Dream Fearlessly program, she put on an event that made a big impact.
“All you need is an organization to partner with to make a difference,” claims Lisa. “And if you’re passionate about that organization, it makes it that much easier.”
On a Saturday in August, Lisa and her team of 28 customers, friends and community volunteers assembled and sent 242 boxes of supplies to special education teachers in their state. Supplies were purchased by the non-profit with help of a donation from Lisa’s agency and American Family’s matching gift program.
“These are resources special education teachers need,” says Lisa. “And the corporate support really helped with implementation!”
Although this event resulted in significant donations to a worthy cause, the greatest results were the connections made and the passions discovered.
“My office manager helped with the One Saturday event and from that day on she became a mentor for two special needs children that she tutors on Tuesday nights,” shares Lisa. “She felt as compassionate about this organization as I do and wanted to do more.”
When asked if she would continue to partner with the Down Syndrome Association, Lisa expressed her newfound passion and shared how it’s impacted her personally.
“In life, we can take so many things for granted,” expresses Lisa. “Every child deserves a safe and fun environment, and I’m proud to say I could be a part of this event and hope to continue doing this for years to come!”
