You may already have insurance for your fishing boat, but do you know you can insure the things you bring with you, too? As a fisherman, you’ve probably acquired a lot of fishing gear throughout the years — and that can add up. You’d probably rather not pay to replace or repair your items if they’re lost, damaged or stolen. That’s why personal effects and fishing equipment coverage is so important to have.
What Is Personal Effects & Fishing Equipment Insurance?
Personal effects and fishing equipment coverage is a way to protect your valuables when you head out on the water. We’ll offer coverage up to $100,000 as long as the items are aboard the insured watercraft, while the property is being loaded onto or from your boat, and if your equipment is within 25 feet of your boat.
This means your items will be covered if they were damaged, stolen or fell into the water. And, this coverage is great because we offer full replacement, which means we’ll cover the cost to return your items in either pre-loss condition or better! This also includes fishing equipment that belongs to your guests, as long as they are specified on the policy.
What Is Covered by Personal Effects & Fishing Equipment Insurance?*
Your personal effects and fishing equipment policy covers things like your fishing rods, reels, tackle boxes, lures and rigs, bait boxes, nets, downriggers, outriggers, rod holders, fighting chairs, and even personal effects like your cellphone, camera, clothing, portable speakers, SCUBA gear, etc.

It’s a great way to determine how much coverage you need, and it’ll be helpful to have if you ever have to file a claim.
Watercraft Equipment Coverage
You may also want to consider watercraft equipment coverage, which includes protection for accessories on your insured watercraft not installed by the manufacturer as part of the original sale. This coverage applies to items such as the watercraft trailer, boat hoist, marine instruments, safety and life preserving equipment, electric trolling motor, kicker motors, and GPS, fish/depth finders. Your policy provides coverage up to $3,000 for watercraft equipment, but you can increase that coverage up to $100,000.
